Last week fashion
lovers descended upon the “Big Apple” for New York
Fashion Week 2012. Throughout the glamorous
week, many designers took our breath
away. In fact, the S/S shows almost made us want to skip fall entirely!
The Alice +
Olivia collection was youthful and retro, reminiscent of the 50’s American dream. Sorbet colors, polka dots and peplum adorned poofy party dresses
and bustiers. To keep with the retro feel, hair was parted deep on the
side and sleeked back into low ponytails then completed with a jet-black cat eye. We also got a first look at the
designer’s new purse line debuting next spring.
Zac Posen
assembled an all-star cast to carry his looks down the runway. Naomi Campbell,
Coco Rocha and Karolina Kurkova (just to name a few!) were showstoppers in his Old Hollywood glam
designs. Hems ranged from cocktail dresses to full-length, body hugging
mermaid gowns in a rainbow of colors.
Hair was styled in sleek, smooth waves. Kabuki for MAC created the makeup looks,
emphasizing the model’s lashes with two layers of falsies.
Jason Wu’s avant-garde collection oozed sex appeal
and gave off a Fifty Shades of Grey vibe! The designer masterfully juxtaposed
masculine and feminine by contrasting leather
harnesses with feminine fabrics such as tulle and
lace. Models wore African braids, which are tighter to the scalp than
French braids then tucked under in the back. Looks were finished with strong brows, dark red lips and navy
nails, achievable at home with OPI’s “Suzi Skis in the Pyrenees”.
