HISTORY OF FASHION: New York Fashion Week

Chic Grads at NYFW 2011

The first New York Fashion Week was held back in 1943 and became a huge success among both industry insiders and ordinary people.

At that time, journalists were not able to travel to Paris to see French fashion due to the second World War conditions. NYFW was organized to draw attention of people and insiders to "new" American fashion. Popular magazines such as Vogue featured not only French, but American designs at that time!

Today, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week is perhaps the most well-known event held during New York Fashion Week, but not the only one. Many top-name designers show their collections at other venues, including Ralph Lauren, Donna Karan, Calvin Klein and Marc Jacobs.
