Cassi Hurd is a professional hair and makeup artist in New York City. As a licensed cosmetologist, hairstylist, and certified makeup artist, her experience covers all aspects of the entertainment industry including film, fashion, editorial, television, in-salon, bridal, print, commercial, and sales.

How did you start your career?
- I first moved to NY 6 years ago knowing I wanted to do hair for film and TV. I took every job I could get and worked for free to learn the business. I worked with several different individuals who taught me all aspects of the industry.
What is your schedule like during this Fashion Week?
-My schedule this fashion week is hectic, I am juggling the several regular network shows I work with and a few for fashion week. It is believe it or not not as crazy as usual though. Fall fashion week is always much MUCH crazier for me.
What artists do you look up to?
-I look up to my mom as an artist. She is one of the best makeup artists I know. She is the reason I was inspired to go in to the beauty industry in general. She co-owns my business with me and is just an inspiration in general, business wise, talent wise, and over all character.
What are the products you could not do without in your kit and could recommend to our readers?
-I LOVE
the liquid eyeliner and
salmon concealer by eve pearl. I also love
Benefit's Erase Paste. These products can literally get rid of or hide any blemish or imperfection. I also absolutely can NOT live with out
Oscar Blandi's Dry Shampoo or
Redken's Quick Dry Hair Spray.
What inspires you (music, fashion, people) etc right now?
- I am huge into
Nikki Minaj, I was late to the Nikki band wagon and really didn't understand her at first but recently I have just been so blown away by her talent and drive. She is a huge role model. And of course I have always loved Jay-Z :)
What should we expect at the upcoming Chic Studios Open House?
-
The Chic Open House is going to be great.
Valentine's Day is creeping around the corner quicker than I think any of us really wanted or expected so we will see a lot of romantic looks that can be taken from day to night. Braids are HUGE right now so we will definitely be incorporating that in as well. I can't wait to share with the potential students some new trends and talk to them about what they can gain from our full courses.
