Monroe was born in the Los Angeles County Hospital on June 1, 1926, as Norma Jeane Mortenson.Her career began when Norma was signed with Blue Book Modeling Agency during the war. She bleached her brunette hair to a golden blond and began researching the work.

Norma Jeane picked Marilyn Monroe to be her name and started from $125 weekly salary. Her first movie role was an uncredited role as a telephone operator in The Shocking Miss Pilgrim in 1947.
